Mass/Conn United was founded on the premise that youth hockey players, boys and girls, would benefit greatly from a development model that provides all aspects of training within one program. Mass/Conn United will offer the area’s best coaching staff, advanced training for skaters and goalies, video review sessions, parent/player guidance, academic support and community relations opportunities.

The Gary Dineen Hockey School FREE Clinic Series focuses on individual skill development as we TEACH all aspects of skating and edge control, along with puck skills (stick-handling, passing & shooting). Our drills offer players an opportunity to work on proper technique while being challenged to push themselves on the ice.

Connecticut Jr. Huskies Novice Program

 

 
CONNECTICUT JR. HUSKIES LEARN TO SKATE/PLAY
 
The Jr. Huskies Learn to Skate/Play program will skate at Enfield Twin Rinks on
Saturday mornings at 8:00 AM.
 
Register in advance or anytime throughout the season.

Session I - Ten Weeks (LTS)
10/7, 10/14, 10/21, 10/28, 11/4, 11/11, 11/18, 12/2, 12/9 & 12/16

Session II - Ten Weeks (LTS/LTP)

PROGRAM OUTLINE

USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM)

2009 birth year and younger
Learn to Skate program is a prerequisite

The Jr. Huskies MDP program runs September 9, 2017 thru March 10, 2018

FUN! - Hockey should be fun for the player

The kids should love to come to the rink whether it’s for practice or for a game
Skills will be the emphasis
Practice will be run as a clinic environment
Players will be kept active by dividing into stations and working with players of equal skill
Small area games will be used frequently
Reinforcement of previous lessons and repetition are key to acquiring the basic skills needed to advance the player
Equal or balanced ice time for game situations
 
 
TRAINING SESSIONS
Twice per week: Friday @ 4:50 PM and Saturday @ 9:00 AM
Fifty minute sessions
Five month season
Cross ice games will be incorporated beginning in November
 
SKATING SKILLS
Basic stance - proper posture; knees bent, back straight, head up, stick on ice
Getting back to your feet after a fall
Two foot glide
One foot glide
T-push
Glide turns – inside/outside edge control
Crossovers
Stopping, V- stop, hockey stop - one foot and two feet
Forward stride
Backward C-cut
 
PUCK SKILLS
Proper grip of stick
Stick-handling
Passing – forehand/backhand
Receiving – forehand/backhand
Shooting – forehand/backhand
 
TEAM SKILLS
Players will learn to function as a team by doing drills together and interacting both on and off the ice
Respect for players, coaches, official and parents
Listening at all times
Positions - NONE
 
EQUIPMENT
   Proper sizing of all equipment is essential for player safety and playing effectiveness
Skates- must fit properly; used skates are OK
Helmet, with mask
Gloves
Stick- cut at the nose when standing on skates. Wooden sticks are good at this age
Shin pads
Elbow pads
Undergarment layers
Protective cup
Hockey socks or sweat pants
Garter belt or shorts with Velcro to hold up socks
Hockey pants
Jersey (Provided by NE Jr. Falcons)

NHL Draft 2017: Detroit Red Wings select '99 Petruzzelli

Mass/Conn United would like to congratulate alumnus '99 Keith Petruzzelli on his 3rd round selection by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.  Keith's journey to the Red Wings included several years within the New England Jr. Falcons, now Mass/Conn United, development model.  He joins '98 Jake Ryczek as Mass/Conn United alumni drafted in the last two NHL drafts.  Keith will head to Quinnipiac University this fall, along with older brother and fellow alumnus '97 DJ.

Keith's New England Jr. Falcons '99 Elite team was recently inducted into the Gary Dineen Legacy Hall of Fame.  READ MORE
